Choose your date & book Private & school tours
What if only a few people show up?
There is no minimum of three guests. If we cancel your departure, we contact booked guests and refund the booking fee. Check your email for updates.
What if it rains or snows?
Tours normally run in rain or snow. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. If extreme weather or unsafe conditions require us to cancel, we contact booked guests and refund the booking fee.
Can I take my dog on the tour?
Yes, dogs are welcome. Keep your dog on a lead and bring bags to clean up after it. Consider hot pavements in warm weather and whether your dog is comfortable with a group.
How do I recognize the guide?
Meet your guide at Domplein, by the Resistance Monument beside the Dom Tower in Utrecht. Look for a white umbrella. Arrive 10 minutes early. View the Utrecht meeting point.
Do I need to make a reservation?
We strongly recommend booking to reserve your place and receive the departure and meeting-point details. Walk-ins depend on available space. Choose a date and book your tour.
Can I leave before the tour ends?
Yes. Please tell your guide before leaving so the group does not wait or look for you.
How long does the tour last and where does it end?
The tour lasts about two hours and normally finishes at or near the Dom Tower in central Utrecht. The guide may adapt the route to conditions on the day.
How far will we be walking?
Expect a little over 3 km (about 2 miles) through Utrecht’s historic centre. Wear comfortable shoes; the route includes cobbled streets and canal bridges.
How do I book a private tour with you?
Visit Private Walking Tour Utrecht for your own guide and a date and time that suit your group. The published price is €190 per guide for a two-hour tour, with up to 20 people per guide. Larger groups and school classes should request arrangements. Ask info@guidedtourholland.com about language availability.
I’m a teacher with a school class, can we come to the tour?
Please arrange a private Utrecht tour for a school class, rather than splitting the class into public-tour bookings. We can discuss your timing, interests and group arrangements.
So how do you guys make money?
The booking fee covers administration and payment processing; it does not pay the guide. Guides receive optional tips at the end. You decide the amount according to your experience and budget.
I went on a tour and we took a group picture, where can I see it?
If your guide takes a group photograph, ask where it will be shared. You can also check our Facebook page. Publication times vary.
What is The Free Tour system?
The tour has no fixed ticket price and works on optional tips. Online reservations cost €2 per attendee. At the end, you decide whether and how much to tip your guide according to your experience and budget.
What time do I need to show up for the tour?
Please arrive 10 minutes before your booked departure at Domplein, by the Resistance Monument beside the Dom Tower. Check the date, time and language in your confirmation.
What if I am late for the tour?
Please arrive 10 minutes early. Once the group leaves, it may not be possible to join. If you miss your tour, contact us or check another departure in the calendar. The cancellation and refund policy applies.
Is there a maximum number of people allowed on the tour?
The total tour capacity is separate from the six-person booking limit. Capacity varies by departure; the English departures checked are configured for 18 or 20 participants. The calendar shows available places. Larger parties should contact us or arrange a private tour.
Do you stop for any breaks?
There is no scheduled food or drink break during the two-hour tour. Tell the guide if you need a short toilet stop, and bring water.
What languages are the tours given in?
Public tours are offered in English, German and Spanish, subject to departures available in each calendar. Check the language in the event details before booking. For private tours, ask Guided Tour Holland about language availability.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Families are welcome. Children should be comfortable with around two hours of walking. Some stories include sensitive history, such as World War II; parental guidance is advised for younger children. Include every participant, including children, in your booking.
Is the tour route accessible to wheelchairs & strollers?
Wheelchairs and strollers can join, but the historic centre has cobbles, bridges and some steps. Detours may be needed. We cannot guarantee every route or optional indoor stop suits every mobility need. Contact us before booking to discuss your requirements.
What will we see on the Free Tour?
Explore Domplein and the Dom Tower, the Oudegracht and its wharves, historic churches, lively squares and stories of Utrecht’s residents. Routes and optional indoor stops vary with the guide, opening times and conditions. Museum admission and a Dom Tower climb are separate activities.
What should I do if my payment is not working?
Check your details and your bank’s error message. Before trying again, check whether a payment or confirmation has arrived to avoid paying twice. Try another method offered at checkout if needed. If you are still stuck, email info@freewalkingtourutrecht.com with your booking or order reference. Never email card numbers or security codes.
How do I cancel or reschedule my tour?
Use the cancellation link in your confirmation email. To change the date, cancel and book again. A new payment is required; the original fee is refunded when you rebook. Without rebooking, cancel at least 24 hours before the tour for a refund. Allow five business days for processing; bank posting times vary. See our Booking Fee, Cancellation & Refund Policy.
Why do I pay a booking fee for a free tour?
Online reservations cost €2 per attendee: €1.61 for administration and organisation, plus €0.39 for payment processing. The fee does not go to the guide. Tips at the end are optional; you choose the amount according to your experience and budget. Pay using a method offered at checkout.
